How to Get DirecTV to an iPod
- 1). Purchase a Slingbox Solo or Slingbox Pro-Hd. You can purchase either of these directly from the sling.box.com website or from many online and offline retailers.
- 2). Attach the Slingbox Solo or Slingbox Pro-Hd to your DirectTV tuner box. Use the included audio-video composite wires to connect the video and audio outputs from your DirectTV tuner box to your Slingbox device. Install the remote control wire, taking care to make sure you mount it on the DirectTV tuner in range of the infrared (IR) sensor. Connect the Ethernet cable to the Slingbox device and connect the other end of the cable to an available port on your Ethernet router or modem. Attach the power cord to the Slingbox device and power on the Slingbox.
- 3). Go to the slingbox.com website from a computer that is hooked up to the same network as your Slingbox device. Select the "Support" tab and then click on "Downloads." Select the option to "Set up on Slingbox.com." Follow the prompts to download the Slingbox software and configure your Slingbox device. At the end of this process, Slingbox will give you an access code that you will need to access your Slingbox device from another Internet connection.
- 4). Press the round button at the bottom of your iPod Touch's screen and slide your finger as instructed to unlock your iPod Touch device. Press the "Settings" icon and then select the "Wi-Fi" option. Click on an available Wi-Fi network. If there is a lock icon displayed to the right of the network's name, you will need to enter a password to access the Wi-Fi network.
- 5). Press the round button at the bottom of the iPod Touch's screen. Press the "App Store" icon and then select the "Search" option. In the search bar, type "Slingbox." Select the SlingPlayer Mobile application. The cost to purchase this application is $29.99 as of 2010. Press the icon labeled "29.99" and then press "Install."
- 6). Press the new "Slingbox Mobile" icon on your iPod Touch's screen. Sync your Slingbox Mobile application with your Slingbox device by entering the requested information, including the access code from Step 3.
- 7). Watch DirectTV programming on your iPod Touch. You can fully control all features from your DirecTV tuner box and watch the corresponding programming on your iPod Touch.
