How to Set a BlackBerry Lock Message

    • 1). Press the "BlackBerry Menu" button to open the Home screen.

    • 2). Select "Options" from the Home screen. The icon for Options is a wrench.

    • 3). Click "Security Options," then select "General Settings."

    • 4). Highlight "Disabled," located to the right of the title Password. Click down on your trackball or trackpad to open the Password options. Click "Enabled."

    • 5). Change the number of password attempts allowed on your phone by highlighting the number below the title Password. You can have as little attempts as three or as many as 10. Select the number of attempts you'd like to use. Keep in mind that, should you or someone else enter in the wrong password exceeding the number of attempts allowed, your phone will be wiped clean of all data.

    • 6). Click the "Go Back Arrow" and select "Save." Type, then re-type your new password in the Password Box. Exit out of Options.

    • 7). Select "Lock" (formerly known as "Keyboard Lock") for your BlackBerry Home screen to lock out your phone.

    • 8). Press the "Go Back Arrow" to open the Lock Message. You will see the Device is Locked message box on your phone's screen with the options of "Unlock," "Emergency Call" or "Cancel."

    • 9). Click "Unlock" from the Lock Message.

      Type in your password in the Password Box to unlock your phone.
