How to Connect Two Computers With Comcast & Wireless Routers
- 1). Turn off the router; some routers have a power on/off switch, while others do not. Simply removing the electrical cable from applicable slot on the router will suffice.
- 2). Find the Ethernet output slot on the back of your router; it is a roughly rectangular-shaped slot. Insert the head of the cable from the "non-split" end of the Ethernet splitter into the input slot; you will feel a "click" when it is fully inserted.
- 3). Locate the Ethernet-input slots on each of the computers. Use the Ethernet input slot on the back of the router as a template. On desktop computers, the Ethernet input slot is almost without exception always on the back computer itself; NOT the monitor. On laptop computers, the slot is generally found on either the back or on one of the sides. Unfortunately, there is no general rule as to where, exactly, the Ethernet input slot can be found on the outside of any computer. One will simply need to search for it.
- 4). In the Ethernet input slot of each computer, insert the head of one of the Ethernet cables from the 'split' end of the splitter. Again, you will feel a "click" once the head is fully inserted.
- 5). Your computers are now hardwired into the router. Restore power to the router, then reboot each computer; the latter is sometimes--though not always--necessary in order for Windows to properly establish a new hardwired Internet connection.
