How to Use Ringbacks
- 1). Subscribe to your cell provider's ringback tone service. You can do this over the phone or on your cell provider's website, depending on the provider.
- 2). Choose and purchase whichever ringback tones you like. Providers have hundreds of selections to choose from, and new tones are being made all the time.
- 3). If you don't want to use the pre-made tones, you may be able to make your own ringback tones, just as you can make your own ringtones. See additional resources for more on how to make your own tones.
- 4). Go to your cell provider's site to manage your tones and assign tones to your incoming callers.
- 5). Decide whether you want to record a greeting to use with your tone to introduce this relatively novel feature to callers. If you don't choose to use a greeting, the ringback tone may confuse your callers, as most people have only experienced the standard ringback sound.
- 6). Choose and assign a ringback tone as your default. This will play for anyone who calls who doesn't have another specific ringtone assigned to their phone number.
- 7). Choose and assign ringback tones for different callers. You will have to either access their number in your contact list, or enter a number manually. When that specific person calls, they will hear the specific ringback tone.
You may also have the option to separate contacts into groups, making it easier to assign ringback tones to larger collections of people or phone numbers.
You can also assign the standard ringback sound to groups or individuals, so that they will not hear any of the custom ringbacks, including the default ringback. - 8). Have one (or a few) of your contacts call your cell phone to check that the service is working.
