How to Get a Job in Hawaii
- 1). Register with the Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, Workforce Development Division for a good source of recent job postings. The agency generates a Web site for job seekers called "HireNet Hawaii." Register directly online. Select preferences for the islands where you want to find work and the types of occupations that interest you. Or you can choose to view everything offered in the entire state. Input your personal contact information and your Social Security number to register online. Create your own user name and password, choose a security question and answer, and then view job postings for Hawaii.
Click on the job position that interests you to view a detailed job description. Apply by the method requested in the description, whether by calling the employer directly, e-mailing or postal mailing your resume and cover letter, faxing your resume and cover letter, or applying in person. - 2). Get an online subscription to the Hawaii newspaper(s) of the islands where you are considering work. The island of Hawaii publishes two daily newspapers: "Hawaii Tribune-Herald" and "West Hawaii." Maui and Molokai publish "Maui News." Kauai publishes "Garden Island," and Oahu publishes "Star Advertiser." Subscribe directly on each Web site by entering your personal contact information, billing address, required payment, e-mail address and a new user name and password.
Once subscribed, check out the daily classified ads under the "Help Wanted" category to find job opportunities. Follow the application method described by each employer. - 3). Register with job recruiting Web sites. Search the Riley Guide index of A-to-Z listings of job recruiting Web sites (see References).
Register with each selected Web site by setting up a user account. Enter your e-mail address, choose a user name and password and then perform a job search. Narrow your job search prospects by entering the job title, city and state. Click on the results of your inquiry to view a full job description and the method for applying. You may be redirected to the Web site of a company to apply or provided with e-mail, fax or mailing information to forward your resume and cover letter.
