How to Strip Heavy Wax Buildup From an Industrial Floor
- 1). Mix the stripping solution per the manufacturer's instructions in a five-gallon pail. Place a mop in this bucket and set aside. This is known as the slop mop. Fill the wringer pail with clear water for the rinse mop.
- 2). Remove furniture from the area to be stripped.
- 3). Dustmop the floor to remove loose dirt and debris. Use the putty knife to remove gum and other debris stuck to the floor.
- 4). Spread a liberal amount of floor stripper on a small area between 25 and 50 square feet with the slop mop. Dip the mop into the stripper solution; do not wring. Allow to drip for a moment before mopping onto the floor. The solution should soak for a minimum of 10 minutes. Do not allow the stripper to dry.
- 5). Scrub with the buffing machine using a slow back-and-forth motion. Thick, old wax will require extra scrubbing. Vacuum the stripped area and rinse immediately before the slurry dries.
- 6). Repeat until the entire area has been scrubbed and rinsed. Allow to dry. Inspect the floor once dry for areas which will need to be re-stripped. Floors with heavy build-up may require two or three rounds of stripping to remove all the old wax and floor finish.
