Definition:  After police academy training and at the conclusion of field training, new police officers are released to solo patrol, where they begin full duty as a law enforcement officer. In some jurisdictions, officers ride "two to a car" or are assigned partners.  In others, they drive their own patrol cars and work a zone by themselves or walk a beat.
