Community Based Job Training Grants

Nonprofit organizations as well as state and local government agencies can apply for job training grants to help low income communities. These grants will fund programs that are designed to assist youths and young adults by providing educational and occupational programs. Applicants must meet the grant program's eligibility requirements in order to qualify. Grant recipients are not required to repay the money back. - Sponsored by the Department of Labor, the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funds grants to help young adult who need educational and occupational support. The grants, dispersed to state and local agencies on a formula-based system, provides low-income youths ages 14-21 with job training and academic support for post-secondary education. Local communities will develop activities and programs while working with the WIA One-Step Career Center System. This program is overseen by the nearest Workforce Investment Board.

The Department of Labor funds the YouthBuild program to provide at-risk youths with educational and occupational support. This program will help disadvantaged kids graduate from high school while having them develop occupational skills by constructing and/or rehabilitating homes for the homeless and low-income families. Applicants that are eligible are public and private non-profit organizations, community--based and faith-based organizations, state or local housing development agencies and youth conservation corps. Grant amounts for YouthBuild programs range from $700,000 to $1.1 million.

doleta.gov. - Funded by the Department of the Interior, the Youth Conservation Program provide communities with funds to pay for reclamation projects and other services which requires youth involvement. The program will promote and implement educational programs, community involvement and job training. The Youth Conservation Program will also help youths become better citizens through development programs, conservation related projects and involve them in activities that will enhance their understanding and appreciation of natural and cultural resources. Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations and veteran, youth, or conservation corps that are set up by state, local and tribal governments.
