Cuckoo Clock Repair Instructions
- There are several easy adjustments to make if the clock is not working at all. Inspect the weights; they should be up. Confirm that the pendulum wire is not touching the case. Observe the ticking to make sure it is even.
- Inside the door on the right-hand side, pull up the weights. Then press on the vertical wire until the cuckoo announces the correct hour or half-hour. Restore the weights, which will have fallen. In the case of modern cuckoo clocks, the hour hand can be shifted manually to the right time.
- To get an accurate time from the cuckoo clock, measure the discrepancy in speed between a standard clock and the cuckoo clock. The time can be adjusted by moving the bob, usually shaped as a leaf or a disc, within the clock. By moving it up, you can accelerate its speed. By moving it down, you can decelerate the speed. Begin by moving the minute hand should to standard time. Modern clocks can be fixed by this same method
- Even well-preserved cuckoo clocks will require regular oiling every three years and overhauling every five to seven years. Overhauling involves cleaning the pivots and pivot holes by dismantling and cleaning the clock.
