How to Write a Nursing CV
- 1). Begin the CV with your name, contact address, telephone number and email address. If there is a chance of you moving from your present address, provide a permanent address where potential employers can contact you.
- 2). Include a clear objective that briefly states your skills and what you can do for the employer. For example, saying "Seeking a Registered Nurse position with an adult critical care unit where six years of experience can enhance the hospital's critical care unit" is more targeted and specific than simply saying "Seeking a Registered Nurse position."
- 3). Use a reverse chronological style to highlight your skills, experience and academic background. Arrange all relevant information under heads such as Professional Work Experience, Licensure and Certifications, Educational Qualifications and Volunteer Experience.
- 4). Begin by listing your latest job details, describing the area where you worked (cardiac, pediatric or rehabilitation unit), and the caseload you handled. Describe your skills in patient care, administration and familiarity with Electronic Health Records. Stress your specific skills in the specialization where you worked such as psychiatry or oncology, using positive action verbs such as "evaluate," "implement," "coordinate" and "organize."
- 5). Provide information on other skills with budgeting, resource management, training of nursing staff, and communication with patients and family members. These additional skills will help to set you apart from other applicants.
- 6). Give details of your licensure and certifications from relevant bodies. Include information about your scores on qualifying exams if they are significantly high.
- 7). List your educational qualifications in reverse chronological order, beginning with your highest qualification. Provide information of any teaching experience you have, mentioning the number of classes you handled in each subject. If you have carried out research work and have publications to your credit, provide the titles and details of the journals where it was published.
- 8). End your resume with a list of references, with at least one being a professional reference. Provide correct contact details for these persons, and keep him informed of the fact that you have quoted him as a reference on your CV.
