A Comparison of the BlackBerry 8130 & BlackBerry 8830

    • BlackBerry phones are popular among business users and gaining popularity among other groups. Two popular models are the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 and the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition. Each of these models carry the same characteristics for images sizes and resolution. Other features, however, vary between the phones.

    Physical Properties

    • The BlackBerry 8330 weights 4.6 oz and measures 4.49-by-2.6-by-0.55 inches. This is slightly more then the 8130, which weighs in at just 3.39 oz. The Pearl measures 4.21-by-1.97-by-0.55 inches.

    Memory

    • Both models have 64 MB of flash memory. The more powerful 8830 model has twice as much SRAM as the 8130, coming in at 32 MB SRAM.

    Technology

    • The BlackBerry World Edition supports more network then the Pearl, as its name implies. The World Edition phone can run on networks supporting these technologies: GSM 900, GPRS 1800, CDMA 2000 1XRTT and EVDO. The Pearl does not support GSM or GPRS. Both phones support Bluetooth Class 2 with frequencies of 2404 to 2480 MHz.

    Feature Differences

    • Two areas of differences between the models stand out. The BlackBerry Pearl has a camera flash that uses a Class 1 LED product. The product documentation for the World Edition phone makes no mention of a flash. The 8830 supports SIM cards, a feature not available on the Pearl.
