    Splitter

    • A splitter simply divides the signal in two directions by connecting the wires together. The signal reduces in power by one half, but the loss usually has no effect on signal quality.

    Coaxial Cable

    • Coaxial cable has a single center conductor surrounded by a foil shield to protect the signal from interference. Most home entertainment systems use coaxial cable for satellite and TV signals.

    Configurations

    • Most DSS splitters work with coaxial cables and have jacks built in for connections to most home entertainment systems. The splitters and cables use "F" type connectors that either screw on with a threaded collar or pull of with a spring loaded collar.
