Becoming a License Practical Nurse

• 1). Enroll and complete an LPN training program. These type of programs are offered at many community colleges. If you are unsure where LPN training programs are offered in your area, contact your state board of nursing to get information on state approved programs. Also contact hospitals and nursing homes to find out if they offer on the job training.
  
  
• 2). Check your eligibility for taking a certification exam to become licensed, once you have completed a training program. You will need to take the national exam called the NCLEX-LN certification exam. Most eligibility requirements include that you complete a training program.
  
  
• 3). Register to take the exam. You will be required to pay a registration fee. The cost of the registration fee varies from state to state.
  
  
• 4). Prepare yourself to take the National Council Licensure Examination or NCLEX-LN certification exam. The exam tests your knowledge of patient care. Thoroughly prepare and study for the exam so that you can do satisfactory on the exam.
  
  
• 5). Apply for jobs at a nursing homes or hospitals. When applying for jobs, detail your experience as a CNA and explain your training as an LPN.
