    How to Spend Summer Holidays

    • 1). Poll your family and friends on what sort of vacation, mini-vacation or day trip they'd like to take for the summer holidays. Take their ideas into consideration, as well as the time everyone can spend away and your overall budget. Let everyone participate in this suggestion process, even the younger children.

Search online to find vacation rentals, such as large homes or a group of cabins, that can accommodate your entire group. Perhaps renting a campsite at a lake for one or two days will be enough of a getaway. If not, consider camping for a long weekend. Take plenty of board games to keep everyone entertained well into the night. Make your reservations as far in advance as possible, and try to haggle on your accommodation price if possible.

    • 3). Beaches are ideal for summer vacations as they offer the sun, warmth, sand, water, romantic opportunities for adults and sandcastles for the kids. Cut costs by renting a home near the beach and using buses or bikes to get to the beach, or getting multiple families to pitch in on a rental. Take surfing lessons or charter a sail boat for added excitement and adventure. Rent cabins in the woods for a retreat from the blistering hot weather. Plan activities in advance, leaving some time for everyone to do their own thing, while having structured "together" time as well.

Save your vacation time and money to plan a huge retreat for the entire family to an exotic location such as Mexico, the Caribbean or Hawaii. Travel through all of the major cities in Europe taking in museums and trying new things. Creating memories and possible starting new family traditions over the summer holidays will be treasured by your children as they grow older.

    • 5). Partake in a cruise or visit a city that offers various amusement parks and museums so the experience can be adventurous, enjoyable by all and possibly a learning occurrence as well.
