Easter Decorations for Kids

Easter decorations don't have to be elaborate or expensive. In fact, Easter decorations for kids are both simple and cheap. Bunnies and chicks are common Easter themes, and your kids can create both with a few supplies you'll find at many craft stores. - Kids can make little chicks out of wooden beads, a pipe cleaner, a feather and a couple of permanent markers. Each chick uses two wooden beads, one slightly smaller than the other. Pick beads that have a hole large enough to stick a pipe cleaner through, and pick two of the same color for each chick. (If you are buying plain wooden beads from the craft store, you will have to paint them.) Also pick a pipe cleaner and feather that are the same color as the beads. Stick the pipe cleaner through the bottom of the larger bead and then through the smaller bead, leaving a small loop at the top of the smaller bead. Twist the top loop around the feather to secure it in place. You may have to put a dot of glue to secure it permanently. Twist the bottom portion of the pipe cleaner into a large, flat figure eight to create two feet for the chicks. This will keep the beads on the pipe cleaner and enable the chick to stand up. Snip off any excess pipe cleaner, and draw two eyes and a beak on the top bead.
- Kids can turn terra cotta flower pots into rabbits for some Easter bunny decor. Pick two terra cotta pots of any size, as long as they are both the same size. Glue the pots together with their rims touching each other to create a little barrel-like bunny body. Once the glue dries, spray paint the pots white or any color you desire your rabbit to be. Glue a ribbon around the rims where the pots touch to hide the seam. Pick pieces of felt that are the same color as your bunny, and cut out a pair of ears, two circles for the cheeks and a smaller circle for the nose. Use white felt to cut out two circles for eyes and a small rectangle to make buck teeth. Cut out two smaller circles in black felt to glue inside the eyes as eyeballs. Once the paint is dry, use a craft glue to glue the white rectangle onto the bottom of the top flower pot so that the buck teeth stick out over the ribbon just a bit. Glue the cheeks on top of the buck teeth so that they are touching each other. Glue the nose above the cheeks. Place the eyes appropriately spaced above the nose, and glue the ears to the back of the flower pot so that they protrude up over the top. If you wish to make them stand up straight, you may make a pipe cleaner frame, glue the felt to it, and then glue the ears on.
- Another bunny decoration project is the construction paper bunny. Pick two pieces of the same color construction paper, and roll each one into a cone, taping the edges securely. Cut the bottom of the cones evenly so each will stand upright on its own. Cut off one of the cone's points about 2 inches below the tip to create your bottom half of the bunny. Place the bottom half standing upright with the narrow end upward. Stick the other cone, point down, into the opening in the narrow end of your bottom cone. Tape into place. Cut out a pair of ears in the same color construction paper, and tape them onto the top of the bunny's head. Use markers to draw the bunny's eyes, nose, cheeks and teeth.
