    • 1). Close the jump ring using your fingers, so that the edges are flush. Hold the jump ring between the thumb and forefinger of your non-dominant hand with the seam side facing outward.

    • 2). Grasp the hand file in your dominant hand and file the seam side of the jump ring about 1/16 inch or just enough to file the the curve flat.

    • 3). Place the pendant on the firebrick. Position the jump ring on the brick with the filed flat side of the jump ring butted up again the pendant. If you are just soldering one jump ring onto the pendant, position it in the middle of the pendant.

    • 4). Apply flux to the spot where the jump ring and pendant meet, using the paintbrush.

    • 5). Pick up a chip of solder with the tweezers, dip it into the flux solution and place it on top of the seam where the jump ring and pendant meet. Reposition the two pieces if they shifted when you were painting on the flux.

    • 6). Light the torch using the flint striker. Hold the torch 1 or 2 inches above the pendant, making sure to heat the entire piece, not just the solder. Continue moving the torch back and forth for about 30 seconds or until the whole piece is heated. Concentrate the flame onto the solder for a couple of seconds when it starts to melt.

    • 7). Turn off the torch. Pick up the pendant using the tweezers. Place the piece into the pickle solution for a minute or two. Remove the piece. Rinse in cold water. Allow it to dry.
