    • 1). Measure the length and width of your laptop from front to back. Add 4 to 5 inches onto the length to allow for the closure or flap of the sleeve.

    • 2). Choose your fabric. Your options are endless when choosing a fabric for the laptop sleeve. From canvas to an old t-shirt, choose a material that expresses your style and personality. Use the measurements to cut the fabric into a rectangular shape.

    • 3). Choose the padding. Polyester batting is the most economical choice; fleece is also popular. Determine which batting you need based on the level of protection your laptop will require.

Cut batting 1-inch smaller than the measurements of your fabric. For added protection for your laptop, use a double layer of the batting.

    • 4). Lay the material wrong side up and place the batting in the center of the material. Pin the batting to the material. Sew one line vertically down each side of the batting, removing the pins as you go.

Create a half-inch seam along all four sides of the fabric by pinning it into place. Sew the hem along all four sides of the sleeve, removing the pins as you go. Leaving out 4 to 5 inches for the flap, fold the sleeve in half with the batting facing out. Sew a seam down the two sides of the sleeve.

    • 5). Flip the sleeve right side out. Cut and adhere two to three Velcro strips to the inside of the flap and adjacently onto the sleeve. You may also choose to add a trim to the edge of the flap and adorn the sleeve with some type of embellishments.
