    Flower Bed Design

    • Combine woodworking skills, a round mattress and colorful paint to create a floral bed that sits in the center of the room. A 2-foot tall, round wood platform the same size as the mattress provides a base for bed. Short, wide, petal-shaped pieces of wood with tips that turn downward trim the platform. Soft lilac paint with royal purple accents covers each petal for a cheerful touch. Yellow bedding over the mattress provides a bright center for the flower bed.

    Fancy Loft Bed Design

    • Take inspiration from a loft bed and give it a sophisticated touch to create a raised bed in the master bedroom. The custom-made loft consists of heavy, 7-foot tall wooden arches on all four sides that form a small room area. Support beams and a strong floor cover the top of the arches to create a raised platform large enough for a king size bed and two nightstands.

Wood railings frame the edges of the platform, except for where a spiral staircase leads off the platform on each side of the bed. The small "room" area below the bed can serve as a dressing, sitting, reading or storage area. Black paint over the wood and silky blue bedding finish the design with a somber style. Light stain over the wood and cream bedding finish the design with a clean style.

    Modern Bed Design

    • Go with metal and wood to create a bed with a crisp modern style. A pale pine plank trimmed with stainless steel provides a frame for the box spring and mattress. A sleek, solid, 1-foot tall, stainless steel ball on each bottom corner creates feet that raise the frame off the ground. A thin, 6-foot tall, stainless steel-trimmed, pale pine headboard the same width as the frame adds a simple and natural accent. Small stainless steel balls on each top corner of the headboard complement the bed's ball feet.

    Room Bed Design

    • Turn a king-sized mattress set into its own pseudo room to create a cozy bed design. A plywood platform slightly wider than the mattress set provides a floor base for the creation. A 6-foot tall headboard wall, footboard wall and side wall create a tall room frame. A 6-foot tall piece of plywood with a large door area cut away covers the remaining side wall to provide a doorway. The top of the "room" remains open to help control the temperature.

The basic "pseudo room" bed design can use a variety of finishing accents. Dark stain over the wood, tapestry bedding and fancy beaded curtains over the doorway create a regal style for the bed design. White paint over the wood, tan geometric bedding and an open doorway add a contemporary style. Pink paint over the wood, purple bedding and purple organza curtains over the doorway provides a feminine style.
