    • 1). Lay the poster board on your work table. Trace a single petal shape onto the paper. Use a stencil if necessary and then cut out the shape. The poster board petal will act as your template.

    • 2). Lay the silk cloth on your work table. Lay the petal template on top and trace around the template. Repeat to trace about 30 petals and then cut each one from the silk. Cut tiny slits around the top sides of each petal to make tattered edges.

    • 3). Lay the silk petals on top of scrap pieces of paper. Spray the petals with a stiffening spray and bend each petal slightly to give them some shape. Let the petals dry according to the spray’s instructions.

    • 4). Roll up one petal and pinch the bottom edge. Sew a stitch through the bottom. Wrap another petal around the first, pinch just the bottom and sew another stitch. Repeat until one petal is not large enough to circle the entire growing flower.

    • 5). Wrap another petal around the growing flower and sew a stitch. Overlap the next petal about half way over the previous petal and sew a stitch. Repeat until you have used all the petals.

    • 6). Wrap the pinched bottom of the silk flower in floral tape and slide a safety pin through to use the embellishment as a broach. To attach the flower to clothing, do not use the floral tape. Sew stitches through the petals, about 1/2-inch up from the bottom. Trim off the bottom to make a flat surface and sew the flower to the clothing.
