In order to save marriage in the majority of divorces that go to court, the judge will normally insist that both parties are in agreement to going through with the divorce.
The reasoning behind this is that statistically, if only one of the partners wants to try and make the marriage work then the chances are that the marriage will continue and develop.
If you are in a marriage that is approaching divorce then there are several steps you can take to try ad get the marriage to work instead of going ahead and ending it in a divorce.
One recommended course of action is to attend aprofessionally organised marriage retreat is always a good idea.
A time away from the distractions of every day life with your partner and in the company counselors and other couples in similar situations.
There you undergo therapy sessions, counselling, group activities where you can often see many of your own problems reflected in other couples and of course you get to spend the greatly needed quality time with each other.
If you can't get to one of these retreats or think that it is not for you then you should consider taking some time out with your partner and get away for a few days.
Go to a place where there will be no distractions such as a rented cottage or beach house.
There should be no cell phones, work or anything other that the two of you.
Spend a few days with your partner, de-stress yourselves, get to know them again, get to fall in love again.
Saving a marriage is actually not that difficult once dialogue has been achieved.
You both need to be willing to talk, listen and both be willing to change.
You should accept your partner for who they are and not require them to change.
You don't need to wait until until divorce is on the horizon to try these ideas, the earlier you start to work on a failing marriage then the better your chances of it success.
