    • 1). Avoid super-tight curls. Tight, spiral curls will look unnatural and contrived in photographs. For a more natural look, wrap sections of your hair around the barrel of a curling iron and hold for 5 seconds. Vary the size of the curls and the sections of hair you use. When you release each section from the curling iron, move your hair as little as possible until it is completely cool. Spray lightly with hairspray and run your finger gently through your hair.

    • 2). Apply eyeshadow. If you're using eyeshadow trios or quads, don't feel you have to follow any set of rules. Don't be afraid to experiment. To make your eyes look wider, use the lightest shade of shadow on the inner corner of your eye. Use a shimmering shade over your entire lid and layer them over regular eyeshadows. Use a darker shade in the center of your lid or in the crease for contouring.

    • 3). Use waterproof mascara. You never know who will get emotional and teary on your big day! Encourage everyone in your wedding party to use waterproof mascara to avoid running and smudging. Use a flat eyeliner brush instead of a mascara wand to put mascara on your lower lashes. This will help to prevent the mascara from smearing below your eyes.

    • 4). Fix smudged eye makeup carefully. If you smudge your eye makeup more while trying to fix it, you may have to wipe it off completely and begin all over again. To remove a smear or smudge, wet a cotton swab with makeup remover. Gently dab at the smudge until it is gone. Work carefully and slowly. Do not wipe at the mistake, and do not remove too much.

    • 5). Use a bold lip color to brighten up your look for your reception. A bright lip color will make your teeth look whiter. If you use a bold, deep lip color, keep the rest of your makeup rather neutral. Keep your eye makeup soft and not severe. Make sure your lipstick and blush are in the same color family.

    • 6). Give yourself great cheekbones. If you have a rounder face, shading your cheeks can work miracles. Use a matte bronzer below your cheekbones. Then use a peach or pink blush on the apples of your cheeks. You can also choose to skip the bronzer and apply a bit of shimmer along the very tops of your cheekbones.

    • 7). Choose a hairstyle to flatter your face and gown. Try to find a style that will bring out your best feature. If you want an updo, putting the bulk of your hair between your eyes and the tops of your ears will emphasize your eyes. Placing the hair lower on the back of your head will call attention to your neck, chin and lips.

    • 8). Prevent breakouts on your face. Do not try new skin-care products immediately before your wedding. Even though you will probably be tired in the weeks leading up to the ceremony, take the time to wash your face twice a day, and always remove your makeup before bed. If you have oily, acne-prone skin, consider starting a skincare regimen with salicylic acid well in advance of your wedding day.

    • 9). Prevent breakouts on your shoulders and chest. You want to have clear, glowing skin everywhere. This is especially true if you are wearing a strapless or backless gown. Wear clothes that breathe and prevent the buildup of perspiration. Use a body wash that contains salicylic acid. You can also use a salicylic treatment in a spray bottle, because it is easy to apply.

Touch up your makeup before the reception begins. Look carefully to make sure your makeup is still in place and looking great. Keep in mind that you will be photographed during the reception, too. Don't worry about your blush; it usually holds up great. You will probably want to skip your eyelids also. Trying eyeshadow touch-ups right before the reception is too risky. Reapply your lip color and touch up any oily areas with powder or oil-removing tissues.
