How to Replace Mini iPod Batteries

    • 1). Insert the tip of your case opener tool in the seam between the top cover of the iPod Mini and its body. A plastic pry tool should come included with your replacement battery, but if one did not, you can purchase it from any electronics store. Gently work your way around the top cover of your Mini until it pops off. Repeat the process with the bottom cover.

    • 2). Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the two small screws located on the top of the Mini. Set the screws aside.

    • 3). Insert the tip of your plastic pry tool in the seam between the metal plate on the bottom of the iPod and the housing of the Mini. Gently pry up on the tool to pop the plate out of the Mini. Set it aside. The top of a plug that runs from the iPod to the internal motherboard will now be exposed in the corner of the bottom of the Mini.

    • 4). Insert the tip of your screwdriver just underneath the top of the connector plug and gently pull up to disconnect it from the internal motherboard. You need to use the screwdriver for this (rather than the case opener tool) because the tip of the Phillips-head screwdriver is small enough to fit under the connector plug.

    • 5). Insert your finger into the bottom of the Mini and gently push upward until the motherboard slides out of the housing of the iPod. Set the housing aside.

    • 6). Turn the motherboard over and you will see a square blue battery located in the top half of the motherboard. Use your fingers to unplug the single cable running from the corner of the battery and connecting to the corner of the motherboard.

    • 7). Place the new battery (available from your Apple retailer or online) on the motherboard and plug the motherboard cable into the motherboard. Reassemble your iPod Mini in the reverse order you took it apart in and you are done.
