OS X Lion Finder Feature - New Folder With Selection
Lion has lots of new features, but one I really like is the Finder's New Folder With Selection feature. This simple command takes a group of items you have selected, moves them to a new folder, and gives you the ability to rename the new folder, all in just a few steps. It's a real time saver when you're organizing the chaos on your desktop, or simply trying to keep your filing system up to date.
Using "New Folder With Selection"
- Start by selecting multiple Finder items that you wish to move into a new folder. You will need to select at least two items for the option to move them into a new folder to become active.
- Right-click on one of the selected items, and then select New Folder With Selection (x Items) from the pop-up menu.
- A new folder with the name New Folder With Items will be created at the current Finder location, and all selected items will be moved into the new folder. Finally, the folder's title will be highlighted, allowing you to type a new folder name.
A few notes:
Items you select to move to a new folder must all be at the same location in the file system; for example, all of the items are on the desktop, or all of the items are in a folder in your home directory. You cannot select a couple of items from folder one and an item from folder two. If you do, the New Folder With Selection option won't be available in the pop-up menu.
