How to Dye Sweatsuits
- 1). Wash the sweatsuit to remove any dirt or grease from the fibers. Any impurities may make it harder for the dye to take hold of the fibers.
- 2). Combine water and salt in a suitably sized container. The salt is not always necessary, so consult the dye manufacturer's guidelines for the amount required.
- 3). Mix the dye and water in a cup, add to the container and mix well. Consult manufacturer instructions for the dye-to-water ratio concentrations.
- 4). Submerge the sweatsuit into the dye bath and leave for 20 minutes. Stir regularly with a paddle or other implement.
- 5). Add a mixture of soda ash and water to the tub. Push the garment to one side and pour in the mixture so there's no direct contact. Do this over a period of 15 minutes.
- 6). Remove the sweatsuit and wash away any excess dye with cold water.
- 7). Let the garment dry. Wash properly in a washing machine. Repeat and dye again to achieve a deeper color.
