How to Make a Santa Claus Table Cloth
- 1). Find a simple Santa Claus pattern for your tablecloth. Look in children’s coloring books for patterns or find one on a graphics website. Make a paper copy of the Santa.
- 2). Wash and dry the cotton tablecloth and the various colors of cotton fabric you plan to use for the pattern. This removes any sizing from the fabric. Sizing is a surface glaze the manufacturer adds to help the material hold its shape. Once the sizing is gone the Santa motif bonds better to the tablecloth. Wash dark colors separately from white and light colors to avoid color bleeding. Press all of the fabric pieces with a warm iron.
- 3). Select a piece of white or off-white fabric for Santa’s face. This piece is also going to be the base piece. Adhere a piece of fusible web material to the back of this piece of fabric with an iron, following manufacturer’s directions.
- 4). Trace the entire outline of the Santa pattern onto the piece of fabric from the previous step. Cut out the fabric.
- 5). Adhere fusible web material to the back of red fabric for Santa’s hat. Trace the outline of the red portion of the hat onto the fabric and cut it out.
- 6). Add fusible web material to the fabric color you chose for the trim on Santa’s hat. Trace that portion of the pattern and cut it out.
- 7). Complete Santa’s beard by cutting its pattern out the fabric you chose for it after adding fusible web material as backing.
- 8). Align all the pieces to complete Santa’s face on top of the base piece. Trim edges, if necessary, to align them. Fuse the pieces together with the steam iron, following manufacturer’s directions for the fusible web. Do not fuse the back of the original piece of background fabric.
- 9). Place the Santa motif on a cardboard surface so the fabric markers don't damage the surface underneath. Draw along the edges of the motif with a dark fabric marker. Draw Santa’s features on his face as well. Color in his eyes and mouth with appropriately colored fabric markers. Allow the face time to dry.

Add decorative stitching around the edge of the Santa Claus fused on the tablecloth to make an applique if you wish. You can add zigzag stitches with a sewing machine, or use any variety of hand stitches.
