How to License Your Music With ASCAP

    Songwriter

    • 1). Verify a song you've written has been either recorded, performed publicly in a venue licensable by ASCAP -- such as a club, concert, college or university -- or performed on film, television, radio or the Internet.

    • 2). Go to ascap.com/join and select "Apply Now" under "Writer."

    • 3). Follow the prompts to input personal information, including your address and Social Security number, as well as information about who performed your song and where.

    Publisher

    • 1). Verify your company has published works that are recorded, performed in a venue licensable by ASCAP, performed in an audio visual or electronic medium or are available for sale or rental.

    • 2). Go to ascap.com/join and click "Apply Now" under "Publisher."

    • 3). Specify whether you are joining ASCAP as an individually owned publishing company, a partnership or as a corporation. Follow the prompts to provide ASCAP with additional information about you, the partnership or the corporation.
