How to Make a Necktie a Bowtie
- 1
The first thing you need to do is locate a tie that suits your style. Find a nice pattern with something that will look nice a lot smaller. Small designs and odd patterns of sorts usually turn out pretty well and can even look-dare I say-dashing. - 2
Begin by setting up your tie. Pretend like you are going to tie it as a regular neck tie, only make the thin side of the tie several inches longer than the big side. - 3
Now cross the large end over the thin end, bring it up near your face and tuck it (the larger end) underneath the knot you now have going (This is the same as if you were tying a real neck tie). - 4
This step is relatively simple, fold the large side in half length wise, so that it is now only half as long. If you do it correctly, you should have something that resembles a long rectangle. If it looks something like a square or appears too large, consider folding the large side of the tie in half width wise too. - 5). Now take the large rectangle you just made with the large end of your tie and set it up next to your next. Place it horizontally and make sure it seems about the right size for a bow tie.
- 6
The next step is to-you guessed it-take the long thin end and pull it up over your rectangle section of tie. You should have something that resembles a nice bow tie now. Make adjustments as necessary, you can pull the thin end to make it tighter if need requires. - 7). When you are finished, simply tuck the thin end of your tie (or what's left of it) into your shirt, and nobody is the wiser! See how many compliments you get on your nice new bow tie, and see if anyone has the audacity to think for a second that your nice bow tie could in fact be a neck tie.
