How to Make a Korean Friendship Bracelet
- 1). Cut six strands of embroidery thread to an equal length and tie all of them together with a knot 4 inches down from the top. Clip the 4-inch ends under a binder clip attached to a book or other item, leaving the knot exposed.
- 2). Separate the six strands so they aren't tangled anywhere. Take the first two strands and tie them together once by crossing them over each other and pulling one end through the loop, then pull the two ends away from each other to move the knot all the way up to the top of the strands where they are secured together.
- 3). Tie the first strand to the third strand once, again pulling the two ends away from each other to move the knot up against the top of the strands. Continue tying the first strand to each remaining strand in the same manner. This creates a row of knots that run horizontally along the top of the strands.
- 4). Continue tying the first strand to each of the other strands, one at a time, until the bracelet is at least 4 inches long. Once you complete a row of knots, start over. Pull each knot tight against the one on top of it so the bracelet isn't too loose.
- 5). Braid the end of the bracelet by dividing the strands into three equal sections. For example, divide a six-strand bracelet into three sections that contain two pieces of string each. Braid these three sections by crossing the left section over the middle, then the right section over the middle, pulling tight and repeating until you have 2 or 3 inches of braid. Tie a small knot at the end of the braid, but do not trim off the excess yet.
- 6). Unclip and untie the ends at the top of the bracelet. Braid the ends the same way, by dividing the strands into three equal parts and crossing the left and right sections alternately over the middle section and pulling tight. Once the braid is 2 or 3 inches long, tie it off with a small knot and leave the excess for now.
- 7). Tie the braided parts of the bracelet together to secure it to your friend's wrist. If you need a longer bracelet, untie the knots and continue braiding the excess string. To create a smaller bracelet, unbraid sections until you achieve the desired length, then tie the bracelet off with knots. Trim the excess with scissors.
