The 28th to the 31st October will see the return of the Whitby Goth Weekend for the 29th time at the seaside resort near Scarborough. These have now become biannual events with one in the spring around April and the other always centred around Halloween at the end of October.

This years Gothic Weekend will take place at the usual venue of Whitby’s Spa Pavillion and will include performances by:-

Autumn Cannibals

The Stripper Project, featuring Neil Ash and Kyle Whipp formerly of Children of the Stun

The Last Cry

Jo Hampshire organised the first Gothic Weekend back in 1994 and states that Whitby was chosen for its connections with Bram Stokers, Dracula novel and acceptance by locals and businesses of the Gothic followers who even by then were a familiar sight in the town.

While the main events happen in the Pavilion there are a number of sideshows and entertainments laid on throughout the weekend for visitors. The Elsinore and Little Angle pubs are regular supporters of the event and both venues will host fringe activities where overspill acts and crowds gather.

There is also the now legendary Goths verses Whitby Gazette Football match held each year on the Sunday and a Gothic sandcastle building competition on the beach. The town will be full of people for the weekend and many impromptu activities often happen with picnics, photo shoots and boat trips all very popular.

During the summer months Whitby always proves a popular seaside destination and there are many hotels, B&B’s and guesthouses scattered around the town. The Yorkshire town’s location on the edge of the North sea with its rolling mists, the Victorian facades and infamous graveyard is the perfect location for such an event.
