How to Restore Hair Dyed With Peroxide
- 1). Use a shampoo that is specially formulated for colored or bleached hair. These shampoos have extra conditioners that are absolutely necessary to restore silky texture and shine.
- 2). Deep condition weekly or even twice weekly. A deeper conditioner, in addition to an everyday conditioner, will feed hair. Deep conditioner will coat strands of hair, filling in broken follicles and creating the illusion of healthy hair, while protecting the hair as it grows in stronger.
- 3). Don't wash your hair every day. Natural oils from your scalp will protect hair as well as aid in restoring natural texture. The natural oils do not have time to build up and take effect on your hair and scalp if you are washing your hair daily. Excessive washing, even with a conditioning shampoo, can be counterproductive in that it can cause additional breakage.
- 4). Avoid hot styling tools (e.g. blow dryer, flat iron, curling iron, hot curlers). These tools are damaging even if your hair is healthy. Trying to style damaged hair with a hot styling tool is a recipe for disaster. If you feel the need to style hair, use velcro rollers. Medium-sized rollers used at the scalp will create volume; extra-large rollers will straighten hair without flattening it. If all else fails, put your hair in a loose pony tail, but whatever you do, stay away from the hot styling tools.
- 5). Eat your veggies. Saving your damaged hair from the inside is just as important as saving it from the outside. Fresh fruits and vegetables are packed with vitamins and minerals that will facilitate the growth of healthy new hair and keep old hair from falling out. Biotin is an essential for a healthy, full head of hair. According to World's Healthiest Foods, "Excellent sources of biotin include chard, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, and carrots. Very good sources include almonds, chicken eggs, onions, cabbage, cucumber, and cauliflower. Good sources includes goat's milk, cow's milk, raspberries, strawberries, halibut, oats, and walnuts."
