Making money with affiliate marketing is a whole lot easier--and several times more lucrative--if you start an email list.
Why? For one, it's much easier to sell to someone who's already bought from you.
Secondly, people who haven't bought from you are more likely to do so if they receive regular messages from you.
Here are some hints for how to increase affiliate sales with an email list.
First, use your list to get into people's "friend zone.
" Don't just be the person who's trying to sell something.
People love to buy, but usually resent being sold to.
They're also more likely to buy from somebody they like, and even more likely to buy from somebody they consider to be an actual friend.
So how do you step into their friend zone? Most internet marketers will tell you to do this by giving away free information.
But this is only half the equation.
You've got to look at the problems your affiliate products are intended to solve, and then talk about those problems in an empathic way.
If you're marketing weight loss products, for example, don't just give statistics about how being overweight reduces lifespan or increases the risk of heart attack.
Instead, you want to go for the real emotional issues that overweight people face.
Talk about unpleasant reactions from others, the difficulties of getting a date, and even the poor likelihood of getting and maintaining a long-term relationship when you're overweight.
Some people would say that these aren't the most important things to think about when it comes to being overweight.
But what's important if you want to make money online is not what the experts tell you is most important, but what means the most to your readers and potential customers.
In other words, don't tell your customers what they should really care about.
Nobody appreciates being told what they should or should not be thinking.
Instead, find out what their concerns are, and speak directly to those concerns in your email newsletter.
Do this in every email you send out.
In some ways, this kind of newsletter content is more important than your actual sales link.
In fact, it will get your affiliate link clicked more often than just advertising a product with every email--even if you don't send out the link to the product every time.
Second, don't forget to give away the occasional free item.
In almost any niche, you can usually find enough free giveaways to keep your list happy.
You can also write, or pay somebody to write, a free report that is focused on your readers' niche concerns.
All in all, making money with affiliate marketing is much easier and more lucrative when you have a list.
Just be sure to identify with your readers by addressing their concerns, and ingratiate them to you by providing them with free info, and you've got it made!
