How to Make a First Holy Communion Wreath for the Head
- 1). Measure the crown of the young girl's head with a measuring tape. Arrange the child's hair if she is going to wear it in a bun. For this, measure the circumference of the bun instead of the crown of the head for the wreath size.
- 2). Cut a piece of florist wire one inch longer than the measurement of the child's head or hair bun with wire cutters. Form a hook-shape at each end of the wire piece.
- 3). Hook one end of the wire over the other. Pinch the hooked ends of the wire together to secure them in place.
- 4). Wrap the end of a roll of white floral tape around the center of the wire circle at an angle. The tape sticks to itself when it is pulled and wrapped tightly. Wrap the entire wire ring with the tape to cover it and seal in the joined ends.
- 5). Cut the fresh flowers to a 1 1/2-inch stem with a sharp knife. Cut a 4-inch piece of florist wire for each fresh flower blossom. Insert the piece of wire through the stem area, just under the petals of the real flower. Bend the wire in half and wrap it with floral tape to create a stem that easily bends. Cut silk or satin flower stems at a 2-inch length with wire cutters if using them instead of fresh flowers for a keepsake wreath.
- 6). Hold a blossom with the wire stem placed against the side of the tape-covered wreath ring. Wrap floral tape around the stem to secure it to the ring. Add a second flower and continue wrapping the new stem with the unbroken piece of tape. If you struggle with the full roll of floral tape, you can tear a 20-inch piece of it to work with. Continue adding flowers and wrapping the stems to the wreath ring with the floral tape.
- 7). Unroll several inches of 1/4-inch wide satin ribbon from a spool. Wrap the loose end of the ribbon over the flower covered wreath ring allowing a 15- to 18-inch tail to hang from the ring.
- 8). Wrap the ribbon lightly around the floral wreath ring every 2 or 3 inches, between the flower blossoms, by holding the spool in one hand and the wreath in the other. Move the spool around and through the wreath to unroll and wrap the ribbon around the wreath.
- 9). Cut the other end of the ribbon to match the first 15- to 18-inch tail after the First Holy Communion wreath is wrapped with ribbon. Tie the ribbon ends in a shoelace bow. This is the center of the back of the hair wreath.
