Makeup Tips for a Natural Look

    Prep & Base

    • The best way to start a soft and natural look is to cleanse and moisturize your face. Not only will it give you a fresher look, but the moisturizer also acts as a base for your foundation, which will go on smoother and more even.

When choosing a foundation and concealer, pick one with a yellow tone, to blend better and look invisible in natural light. When applying foundation, go for a lighter texture and apply thinly, blending with your fingers or a sponge, down toward your neck. If you use mineral makeup, dust it on lightly, outward in a circular motion.

    Cheeks & Eyes

    • To get dewy cheeks, a cream blush is best, in a simple, neutral shade. Blend into the apples of your cheeks and then softly out toward your hairline.

For eyeshadows, earth tones work best, colors such as browns, golds, soft pinks and plums. To get a brighter look to the eye, without drama, dust the eye from lash to brow with a light, shimmery color, and then use a medium color in the crease of the eyelid.

For eyeliner, forgo liquid or thick dark liners. Instead, apply a darker eyeshadow with a wet liner brush and then lightly blend with a dry brush.

For eyelashes, a clear mascara is good for subtle definition, but if you want length, one coat of a soft black will do the job.

    Lips & Finish

    • Use a lightly tinted lip gloss that is not overly shiny. Nars Lip Stain Gloss, or a similar product, will give a kissable look without the overdone shine. If you prefer lipstick, a creamy neutral pink will work. For definition, apply a lip liner after lipstick with a brush to blend and smooth.

Heavy powders aren't necessary for a natural look, as they matte the skin. You want your face to look fresh and dewy. For a sun-kissed look, you can lightly apply a bronzer. Delicately dust it on your cheekbones, your forehead and the bridge of your nose to achieve a sunny, dewy look.
