Michigan Snowmobile Trails

    • Michigan is home to an extensive snowmobile trail network, offering 6,200 miles of groomed trails. Visitors will find trails throughout the Lower and Upper Peninsulas that utilize public and private land and offer large parking areas and well-marked routes. Snowmobilers will also find many resorts and hotels that offer discount packages and added amenities, including inside storage for their machines.

    Four Flags Snowmobile Trail

    • The Four Flags Snowmobile Trail runs for 50 miles from Niles to just north of Sister Lakes, Michigan. The trail is convenient for out-of-state visitors because its trailhead is less then 10 miles from the Indiana state line. The trail consists mainly of farm fields and small wooded areas, with the terrain being mostly flat. Nearby lodging options include Holiday Inn Express and the Niles Inn, both located in downtown Niles, Michigan.

    Petoskey Trail System

    • The Petoskey Trail System is a network of snowmobile trails in the northwest Lower Peninsula that stretches from Elmira in the south to Indian River in the north. The trail system offers groomed trails with open and forested riding on mostly hilly terrain. Visitors will find parking just south of Petoskey on the Petoskey Snowmobile Club's property, which has access to more than 100 miles of trails. Nearby accommodations include an Econo Lodge in Petoskey, the Junction Inn in Walloon Lake and the Mountainside Inn in Boyne Falls, Michigan.

    Alpena Trail System

    • The Alpena Trail System includes 93 miles of trails groomed by the Alpena Snowdrifters Snowmobile Club. The trail system features two abandoned railroad grades, the Thunder Bay River State Forest and Devil's Lake. The landscape is mostly wooded and winding, except for the railroad grades, which provide long straight stretches. Lodging options include a Best Western and a Days Inn just west of downtown Alpena.

    Drummond Island Trails

    • Drummond Island is off the eastern end of the Upper Peninsula and offers a 100-mile groomed snowmobile trail system. The trails consists of hilly, mostly forested terrain and encompass most of the island, with interconnecting trails in the center. Visitors have to take a ferry from De Tour Village to reach the island, where they will find several lodging option including the Drummond Island Resort, Drummond Island Hotel and Birch Tree Resort.
