    • 1). Place the piece of plywood across two sawhorses. Draw lines on the top left and right corners to form curved edges.

    • 2). Position the jig saw on the line at the top left edge of the board. Cut along the line to form the curve on the headboard. Cut the curve on the top right corner of the board.

    • 3). Mark a spot 18 inches from each end of the board. Glue a piece of wood molding horizontally at each spot.

    • 4). Paint a coat of the primer onto the headboard with a paint brush. Run the brush along the grain of the wood. Let the primer dry for two to four hours.

    • 5). Apply a coat of white latex paint. Use a soft white rather than a stark white to keep with the shabby chic look. Paint the wood in the direction of the grain. Let the paint dry overnight.

    • 6). Sand the headboard gently with very fine grit sandpaper. Press a little harder on the edges and moldings to reveal the wood and create a distressed appearance.

    • 7). Add a small amount of clear wax finish to a clean cloth and rub the cloth over the wood. Apply the protective wax in the direction of the wood. The color may yellow slightly, but this is just fine for the shabby chic finish.
