Question: What is the National Children’s Book and Literacy Alliance?

Answer:

The National Children’s Book and Literacy Alliance (NCBLA) is a nonprofit literacy organization that was founded in 1997 by a group of award-winning children's book authors and illustrators.
  • ”The main goal of the NCBLA is to make issues related to young people’s literacy, literature, and libraries an ongoing priority on our national agenda. The NCBLA acts as a freelance nonpartisan advocate creating and developing special projects and events that promote literacy, literature, and libraries and educate the public about practical literacy solutions.” (NCBLA)

The National Children’s Book and Literacy Alliance website contains a number of resources for parents, teachers, and mentors, including articles, recommended books, and tips to encourage reading. One of the NCBLA’s most visible projects is the 2008 book Our White House: Looking In Looking Out and its companion website. According to the National Children’s Book and Literacy Alliance, "This unprecedented anthology offers a dynamic view of American history that we hope will inspire young readers on their journeys to becoming the civic leaders of tomorrow!"
