Cream

• Creams are an easily attainable and inexpensive way to remove upper lip hair. They are simple to apply (using fingertips) and painless. The hair removal process typically takes only six to 10 minutes. The hair wipes off as you remove the cream with a damp washcloth. The only negative is that depilatory creams only remove the hair above the surface of the skin, so the hair grows back in one to three weeks, but since it's painless and quick many choose this method over waxing or permanent hair removal.
  
  

Wax

• Waxing is another quick way to remove upper lip hair. In this method hot wax is applied to the upper lip area and a small strip of cloth is put over the wax. The strip is then removed quickly and the hair is pulled from the follicle. Waxing does last longer than cream removal (up to six weeks). However, the process can be uncomfortable due to the hot wax and the irritation of pulling the hair out. Waxing kits are available at drug stores or you may choose to have it professionally done at a salon.
  
  

Laser

• Laser hair removal is a more long-term, and in some cases permanent, solution to facial hair. In this type of treatment you must visit a certified physician, nurse or esthetician. In this procedure an intense beam of light removes the hair by destroying the follicle. This treatment can last several years, and with multiple treatments even longer. It only takes a few minutes to treat the upper lip area, but laser treatment is more costly than waxing or using creams. It can cost anywhere from $150 to $400 per visit, depending on the physician and the area of removal. There are some risks involved, so consult a physician to make sure you are a good candidate for laser hair removal.
