Tonneau Covers

• A tonneau cover is designed to cover the bed of a truck to protect the cargo from moisture, spilling and theft. Tonneau covers can be made of hard and soft materials and come in various lengths and styles. The basic concept of a tonneau cover is that it is attached to the bed of a truck, either directly behind the cab or directly behind the toolbox, and stretches all the way down to the tailgate, completely covering the open cargo space.
  
  

Roll Bars

• Roll bars are typically mounted in the bed of a truck, directly behind the cab. Roll bars were originally designed to help improve general stability and reduce damage to a vehicle in the event that it was inadvertently rolled over during use. However, most roll bars currently in use, especially in large sturdy trucks such as the Ram, serve mostly cosmetic purposes. Roll bars are often equipped with additional lighting fixtures for vehicles that regularly travel off road.
  
  

Roll Bars and Tonneau Covers Independently

• There are a wide variety of both roll bars and tonneau covers available to fit virtually all makes and models of the Dodge Ram. It will not be a problem to find either of these pieces of equipment in the size, shape and color you find most attractive on your vehicle.
  
  

Roll Bars and Tonneau Covers, Together

• You will have a difficult time finding a roll bar that can be installed in conjunction with a tonneau cover. These items are more or less installed in the same location, but they do not typically overlap well.
  
  However, there are some companies that make tonneau covers which can be modified to fit around the roll bar, though you risk allowing water in when you modify it. There are also modified roll-bar, tonneau cover assemblies that feature a partial roll bar that attaches to the top of the tonneau cover rather than the bed of the truck.
  
  

Considerations

• It is technically possible to fit both a tonneau cover and a roll bar on your Dodge Ram, but it may not be worth the expense and effort you will have to go through to do so. The average tonneau cover will not work with a roll bar on your Dodge and you will have to make structural modifications to one or both items in order to make it work. Modifications may render the roll bar or tonneau cover ineffective at performing its intended function.
