What Are Triceps?
Triceps are one of those muscles that people miss all the time.
They're located behind your biceps, on the other side of your arms.
Little do many people know that the triceps muscle is actually bigger than the biceps muscle! Unfortunately - and I'm in this group! - when many of us start out weight lifting and bodybuilding, we tend to think of the biceps as really the only muscle in the arm that matters.
But that just couldn't be further from the truth! As large as the triceps muscles are, they are the ones that you want to work out to get a bigger arm circumference.
They're a weird-looking muscle, I suppose.
A properly-developed triceps muscle will look a little like an upside-down horseshoe.
But for those who compete in bodybuilding, they know that that's a beautiful sight! Because the triceps muscle is more complex and more difficult to work out than the biceps muscle, you will usually have to do more sets and lifts (full exercises) with them.
But it's worth it if you're going to take bodybuilding seriously; once you get to a certain level, it's incredibly obvious when you haven't given enough attention to them! Genetics plays a role in the size of your triceps, of course.
But just because you're not starting off with huge ones, don't be discouraged.
You can really build them if you're isolating them in the correct exercises.
Just be careful when you do, and pay close attention to how your elbows feel the days after triceps workouts.
Some people can get elbow trouble, and you certainly don't want chronic pain!
