The Best Do it Yourself Hair Dye
- Coffee is not only good for waking you up in the morning, it is good for waking up your hair as well. Coffee is a safe and natural way to color your hair. It does not contain the harsh chemicals that store-bought hair dyes do. Plus, it isn't as instantly permanent. Whereas 10 minutes of a store-bought hair dye can radically alter your hair color, coffee usually requires several applications to slowly highlight and change the color of your hair, so you can more easily gauge at what point you are satisfied with your hair color. With coffee hair dye, you are less likely to ruin your hair color and have to set up an emergency hair appointment to reverse the damage, or worse, be seen with funky-colored hair.
- Brew a pot just as you would if you were preparing coffee to drink. The stronger the coffee brew, the more dramatic your hair coloring results will be. Allow the brewed coffee to cool completely before attempting to douse your hair in it to avoid burning yourself. Pour the coffee into a basin and dip your hair into the basin. Use a cup to pour the coffee onto all of your hair, and rinse your hair with the coffee at least 15 times to thoroughly saturate it. Wring your hair out, clip it atop your head and allow the coffee rinse to sit in your hair for 15 minutes. Do not wrap your hair in a towel as the towel will absorb the coffee, making the hair dying less effective. After the 15 minutes are up, rinse your hair with cool water and style as usual. Your natural highlights should be more vibrant and any grays should be covered. If you have blonde or light-colored hair, you hair should appear darker. If you do not receive the desired results upon the first application, simply repeat the process until you do.
