• It wasn't until the 1920s that a version of the bathing suit we know today was introduced. Previous to that the bathing suit was known as a "swimdress," a light dress made to cover the body completely.
  
  

Considerations

• Unless you are an accomplished seamstress, it is not recommended to cut and sew the bathing suit yourself. Bathing suits tend to made out of a slippery and stretchy material that is not only difficult to cut, but also difficult to sew.

• Contests to design the best bathing suit are becoming very popular, and submitting one of your designs could win you prizes or cash. Roxy, one of the most successful swimwear brands on the market, just held their first bikini contest this year. First prize was $5,000.
