How to Store Wool Yarn

    • 1). Sort out your wool from your other yarns. For best protection, wool needs to be stored with something that repels moths and other wool pests.

    • 2). Organize your wools in a way that makes sense to you. Knitting instructor Ann Richards suggests sorting by color or by wool weight, such as chunky or fingering.

    • 3). Place your sorted wool in a large plastic container, using one container for each category. You can double up if you don't have a lot of yarn. For example, store "cool" blue, green and purple yarns together, put neutral wools in another container and store hot colors like yellow and red in a third container.

    • 4). Add cedar chips or cedar wood to repel moths.

    • 5). Label the containers so you know what's stored where. Use a permanent marker and sticky labels or masking tape.
