How to Build a Simple Wood Coffee Table With Two Drawers
- 1). Place the two 34-inch boards parallel with the wide edge vertical. Position the boards 4 feet apart. Make the ends flush. Place the 48-inch board against the ends of the two parallel boards with its wide edge vertical. Make the ends flush. Set a 5-inch board at the other end of each 34-inch board parallel to the 48-inch board.
- 2). Drill screws through the 48-inch board and each 5-inch board where they meet the 34-inch boards.
- 3). Measure a distance of 22 inches from the inside edge of both 34-inch boards towards the middle of the table. Mark a line parallel to the 34-inch boards at that point.
- 4). Set the third 34-inch piece between these two lines. Drill screws through the 48-inch board into the end of this board.
- 5). Set the side of the 2-inch block against the opposite end of the 34-inch board. Drill screws through the block into the end of the board.
- 6). Lay the plywood sheet over the table frame. Line up the edges. Connect each corner by drilling a small screw into it. Measure and mark a point every 6 inches along each side of the sheet where it touches the frame. Drill small screws through the sheet into the frame at these markings.
- 7). Sand the surface area of the tabletop smooth with the fine-grit sandpaper.
- 8). Flip the tabletop upside down. Set a post end even with the inside edge of each corner. Connect the frame to the posts by drilling a larger screw into it. Use one screw per side on each corner.
- 9). Draw a line between the sides of the 48-inch board and the ends of the smaller boards parallel to it. You should have two sets of lines with each set having 18 inches between them.
- 1). Lay out a pair of 18-inch boards parallel with the narrow edges horizontal. Set the boards 33 1/2 inches apart. Place a pair of 33 1/2-inch boards at either end between these boards. Make the ends flush.
- 2). Place one of the 1/2-inch plywood sheets over the drawer frame. Make the ends flush. Use short screws to connect the sheet to the frame using the same method used to construct the table frame.
- 3). Place a draw runner against each of the longer sides of the drawer. The pieces attached to the drawer are a solid strip with a wide section in the middle. Drill short screws through the holes in the runners to attach them to the drawer. Line up the matching sections of each runner along the premeasured lines on the underside of the table. These sections resemble a "C" shape. The piece attached to the drawer slides into the pieces attached to the table. Drill starter holes through holes of the runners along the underside of the table.
- 4). Drill to where the end of the drill bit begins to surface through the top of the table. Connect the runners to the tabletop by drilling short screws through the top of the table into the slot on the runners.
- 5). Attach the handle using screws to one of the short ends of the drawer. Sand the exterior surface of the front board smooth.
- 6). Construct the second drawer as you built the first drawer.
