How to Borrow Electronic Books From the Library
- 1). Contact your local library, or refer to its website, to find out if you need digital rights management software and a DRM account. Many libraries use a third-party service called OverDrive, which requires software and a DRM account called an Adobe ID. The software and account are both free. If your library supports e-book downloads, it will have information on how to set up your computer or portable device.
- 2). Go to the website for your local library.
- 3). Select the tab for databases. Some libraries offer a tab for e-books on their homepage. If your local library uses this format, you may skip this step.
- 4). Select the tab for e-books.
- 5). Enter the title for your book of choice in the search box provided. Click "Search."
- 6). Click on the title of your book of choice.
- 7). Select the "Add to cart" button or link.
- 8). Enter your library card number and pin in the boxes provided, when you are ready to checkout.
- 9). Select the length of time that you wish to borrow your book from the drop-down box provided.

Click "Confirm" to complete your transaction. - 11
Select "Download" to transfer the book to your computer. If you are using a portable device, such as a smart phone or e-book reader, you may need to download the book to your computer first and then transfer it to the device, or you may be able to download it directly to the portable device. This will depend on what type of portable device you have as well as your library's own requirements.
