Isn't this an interesting quote from Gore Vidal? I applaud him for admitting that he feels jealousy when a friend succeeds, because it's a natural emotion and can happen from time to time. The thing is, though, you can't let these negative feelings get between you and a friend.

If you notice yourself getting jealous over a friend's good news, check yourself. Don't wallow in jealousy, because you'll hurt your friendship by saying and doing stupid things that you won't even mean to do. Be conscious of your feelings so you can work on the reasons behind them. Then, do what you can to change this, because when a friend succeeds, it just means you should be happy for them. It has nothing to do with you not getting what you want in life. We each have our own path, and someone else's success doesn't take away from yours.
