Wedding Memories - Professional or Amateur

A romantic wedding needs tangible memories that will last the lifetime of the couple.
Professional photographers make their living from recording the aspects of weddings.
Some use film; other use digital; a few use a combination.
The same is true of amateur photographers.
Both types of "artists" ply their talents to create beautiful memories.
So which is better, professional or amateur photographers? Which will provide the photographs, once filling albums, will allow romance to last? Many amateurs have the experience and talent found in many professionals.
Some professionals lack the "eye" to take relevant and loving pictures.
However, certain points to consider will help a couple make a wise decision.
1.
Check with clients who used the photographers.
View samples of their work.
Amateurs will have samples of their work.
Professionals always do, or should.
Find the person whose work matches the couple's tastes and desires.
Be sure to check wedding pictures.
Someone who takes lovely portraits may not be able to do with same at weddings.
2.
With a professional, check with the Better Business Bureau.
Any complaints means avoid that person completely.
3.
Consider the available funds for pictures.
Couples withlimited funding may not be able to afford a professional at all, or they may contract for certain shots taken before and/or after the ceremony, relying on an amateur or amateurs to fill in other pictures wanted.
4.
Having several people taking photographs, as long as they don't get in each other's way or disrupt the ceremony, often provides different perspectives.
5.
A couple may use a professional to take posed pictures before or after the wedding itself and have friends and relatives provide photos from the ceremony itself.
My wedding many years ago left memories, but few pictures.
The "professional" photographer we hired brought three cameras to the wedding (after arriving forty-five minutes late).
All three cameras were defective, and he provided few photographs.
Finally, seven months after we were wed, he had us come to his studio for a few posed shots.
Thankfully, a relative brought a camera and used it.
At a wedding I attended a few months ago, one photographer was nearly professional quality, and several others were talented amateurs.
The resulting shots taken before, during, and after the ceremony gave the couple over 200 photographs for their album, to be shared, and to provide memories for a lifetime.
The decision is the bride's and groom's to make, once they compare and search for what they want.
