As a secondary color derived from mixing the primary shades of yellow and blue, it's no surprise that green works well with blue color palettes. However, using two paint colors on the walls of one room can overwhelm the space if not done well. While a standard accent of one blue wall in a green room or one green in a blue room works well, painters with patience and a steady hand can create wallpaper-like designs with rollers, paint and a little masking tape.

    Boxing Emeralds and Sapphires

    • Emerald green and sapphire blue are two intense colors that would overwhelm a space if applied as solid wall colors. Instead, use the vibrant, saturated shades in a checkerboard pattern on one accent wall in a modern white room with modern black furnishings. After painting the room a cool shade of white with a bluish tint, tape off squares on the wall that are approximately 1 foot square, varying the sizes slightly to ensure evenly spaced squares from top to bottom. Create a straight checkerboard pattern by alternating emerald green squares with sapphire blue squares, or soften the vibrancy of the wall by leaving every third square white.

    Midnight Seas Color Fade

    • The color fade is essentially the tonal shift of a darker hue into a lighter one. For a blue and green room reminiscent of ocean depths fading up to the surface, incorporate several shades, including a midnight blue on the bottom, a teal in the middle, and a sea green near the ceiling. Aside from mimicking the changing colors of deep water, using the darkest hue on the bottom adds height to the room. Achieve the look with a wet blend technique by beginning with the darkest paint on the bottom and working up into the lighter shades while the paint is still wet. Color fading can also be done by painting the entire wall sea green, then adding teal and midnight blue to the lower portions of the wall with a dry brush technique that lets a bit of the base color show through.

Blue Raspberry and Lime Candy Stripes

    • The brightness of blue raspberry comes from the bit of yellow and white notes within the color, which serves to accent the citrus tone of lime green. Create a fun, eye-catching accent wall by alternating vertical thick, narrow and pinstripes of the two colors. Rather than attempting the painstaking process of painting stripes next to one another, begin by painting the accent wall a solid lime green. Attach strips of masking tape, of alternating widths, floor to ceiling on the lime green wall. Any area covered by the masking tape will be the green stripes in the pattern. Also, remember to place the tape varying distances apart to create the thick, thin and pinstripes. Paint the areas not covered by tape with the blue raspberry paint, then touch up any bleed marks into the green stripes once the paint has dried and the tape has been removed.
