    • 1). Check to make sure that the all of the levers and switches are in the proper position. If one of the levers or switches is in the incorrect position, the engine will not start. For example, the mower blade switch should be set to the "Off" position, the ground speed lever set to "Start" or "Park," the ignition switch set to "Start" and the choke in the closed position.

    • 2). Clean the air filter and the spark plug. If the air filter is clogged or the spark plug is dirty, the engine will not run properly.

    • 3). Check the transmission levers if the engine will turn on, but the mower will not move. The transmission levers need to be in the drive position, not in the push position if it is a riding mower.

    • 4). Keep the blades and mower section of the Craftsman lubricated, cleaned and well maintained. If there is inadequate lubrication or the mower blades become clogged, the mower will not work properly. The blades should also be sharpened periodically to keep the Craftsman mowing like new.

    • 5). Replace the fuse if necessary. In some Craftsman walk-behind push lawn mower models, the mower cannot handle cutting too much grass and may consequently blow a fuse.
