Ten Exciting Days in the Loire Region.
Our vacation in the Loire Valley in France.
It's August 2010 and we are going on vacation to the Loire Area in France. We started making plans for our holiday to the Loire Areaabout a year before we should go. We found a large number of blogs and websites to assemble infomation about hotels and what to see in the region.
My hubbie is a bicycle fanatic and wanted to bring his cycle. I am not that addicted to bicycling, my hobby is photography. So when he is biking, I follow with my slr camera and a rental car.
That way we can both realize our hobbies and interests, and at the same time hang out together. A very practical solution for both of us.
We chose to stay in Tours in the center of the Loire Valley Holiday by bike in the Loire Valley
We spent a lot of time looking for a central place to stay and, we agreed to book a hotel in Tours. It was an appartment hotel near to the railway station in Tours. The appartment was brand new, but quite small. I'm sure an American would have thought the double bed was ment for only one person. But it was perfect for the two of us. About 140 000 people live in Tours and it is a good base for day trips in the Loire area.
Most of the famous chateaux in Loire is within an hours drive from Tours.
The town of Tours itself is also seriously worth a visit.The charming Place Plumereau in the heart of the old part of town is a must see. A lot of restaurants & bars and shops are located in this area. If you love shopping the Rue Nationale is the street for you. You will find all kind of modern shops there, elegant fashion, electronics, flowers and food.
Close to the Gare SNCF you will find the tourist office. They had a large selection of travel guides and maps, not only for Tours, but for the whole Loire valley. After a stroll around town, and good meal at Place Plumereau, we went back to our condo to get a good nights sleep before next days trip to Bourgueil and Chateau d'Usse. Our dream vacation in Loire has just started.
