BCBGMAXAZRIA Runway for Spring 2015

Max Azria and his wife Lubov introduced their BCBGMAXAZRIA spring 2015 collection on Day 2 of  Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. The couple referred to "timeless elegance with bohemian sihouettes" to describe their spring fashion aesthetic for 2015. According to Lubov Azria, "sun-bleached prints, earthy textures, and soft pastel shades create a chromatic experience." The BCBG brand offers an extensive line of petites' clothing, and Max Azria is one of the few top American fashion designers to offer clothing especially made for the petite woman in addition to his regular line.

Trends emerging from the BCBGMAXAZRIA Fashion Spring 2015 Fashion Show include pastel colors, pretty prints, flowing fabrics, long lengths, cropped pants, boxy cuts, and fabric belts.

BCBG Spring Fashion 2015 - Pastel Hues

Pastels ruled the runway at the BCBGMAXAZRIA Spring 2015 Fashion Show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. Pale pink, baby blue, barely lavender, light salmon, and ivory white were some of the colors used in the fashion presented on the runway.

Special note to petites:

Should petites wear pastels? Although there's no one answer to that question, petites should probably keep in mind that wearing light colors tends to make a woman look bigger while dark colors have the opposite effect.

Even so, petites can successfully wear pastels if the style of the pastel garment is a flattering one. Spring and summer are traditionally times when women dress in lighter colors, and there's no need for a petite woman to shy away from pastels if she wants to embrace the spirit of the season. In addition to wearing clothing with a flattering cut, simply choose a pastel in a hue that's flattering to your individual coloring, and you should have a winning combination.

BCBG Spring Fashion 2015 - Pretty Prints

Several of the ensembles shown on the runway at the BCBGMAXAZRIA Spring 2015 Fashion Show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York feature pretty prints, many of which were florals although there were other print motifs as well. In some of the fashion, mixed prints appeared, masterfully tied together by a common color story.

Special note to petites:

Although many petites favor wearing a dark monochromatic look, there's no need to always stick to solid colors.

Including some prints in your wardrobe can add to its fashion interest. Just avoid huge motifs in prints as well as those prints that tend to create horizontal lines. It's probably a safer bet to wear prints in tops and dresses, rather than pants because pants in a solid color, especially a dark, solid color tend to help make a petite woman look a bit taller.

BCBG Spring Fashion 2015 - Flowing Fabric

One of the trends for spring 2015 at the BCBGMAXAZRIA Fashion Show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York was flowing fabric. See-through chiffon or other lightweight floaty fabrics made up many of the garments, which looked billowy and floaty coming down the runway.

Special note to petites:

Chiffon and other drapey fabrics are generally good choices for the petite woman since they are very light.

It's always a good thing for petites to avoid buiky fabrics.

BCBG Spring Fashion 2015 - Long Lengths

Long lengths marked the skirts and dresses at the BCBGMAXAZRIA Spring 2015 Fashion Show during Mercedes-Benz in New York. Lengths included tea length (mid-calf), midi lengths, and maxi lengths, with nary a mini in sight.

Special note to petites:

Long, maxi dresses or skirts can be workable for the petite woman, especially if they create the appearance of a long line, such as a column dress does. Unfortunately for petites, tea lengths and the even longer midi lengths can emphasize a petite woman's shortness and should be avoided.

BCBG Spring Fashion 2015 - Cropped Pants

Some cropped pants were shown at the BCBGMAXAZRIA Spring 2015 Fashion Show in New York during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Cropped pants have been all the rage for a few seasons now, and we're seeing lots of cropped styles available from retailers.

Special note to petites:

Long pants look more flattering on petite woman than cropped pants do. Pants that literally come up short tend to emphasize a petite woman's short stature and make her legs look even shorter than they really are.

One of the featured items at the BCBGMAXAZRIA Spring 2015 Fashion Show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York was an embroidered white jacket with a boxy cut. Some of the tops presented at the show also had straight, boxy cuts, but they were belted so that the cut wasn't quite so obvious.

Special note to petites:

For a more flattering look, petite woman can choose tailored styles that create shape, rather than jackets and top that are basically rectangles.

A garment with a boxy cut tends to add the appearance of bulk, not a good thing for the petite woman who will look better in sleeker styles.

Many of the garments at the BCBGMAXAZRIA Spring 2015 Fashion Show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York were cinched with fabric belts, some of which were self-fabric belts.

Special notes to petites:

Since belts can be used to create shape, it's a good idea for the petite woman to know which types of belts work best for the short woman. A couple belt styles usually are the most flattering on petites.

One of them is the self-fabric belt because it doesn't create what can be an unflattering horizontal line that gives the appearance of cutting a short woman in half. (The other style is a skinny belt that's the same color as the garment worn.)
